In just two days, we will be entering my favorite season: fall. Camping and fall are synonymous in my book. The weather is just right – cool enough that you don’t overheat during the day and perfect for a campfire in the evening. The changing leaves inspire wonder and make every landscape absolutely picturesque. It doesn’t get much better than camping…unless you have some cool camping gadgets, too! Not only will they make your experience a tiny bit better but they’re just pretty fricking awesome. Check out some of these cool camping gadgets under 30 bucks.

Personal Water Filter

If you’re camping at a campground with electricity, water hookups, and all the works, finding water won’t be an issue. But if you’re backcountry camping or hiking for an extended period of time, you’re going to need some way to purify water. After all, you’ll need to stay hydrated and unless you have your own personal camel, toting gallons of water is super heavy. Well, with the Lifestraw, your problem is solved.

The LifeStraw Personal Water Filter is the perfect camping gadget. It weighs only two ounces and effectively filters 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria and protozoan parasites. Lifestraw is compliant with EPA guidelines for E. Coli, Giardia, and other forms of contaminants. It does not require batteries and has no moving parts, so you don’t have to worry about it easily breaking or getting stuck.

The only instances in which you should not use Lifestraw is if contaminants are dissolved in the water, such as salt in ocean water or arsenic. Lifestraw cannot filter out dissolved contaminants. Besides that, you’re free to drink from practically any puddle, stream, or river without fear of becoming sick.

Glow-in-the-Dark Paracord

Peeing outside is liberating. Decapitating yourself while simultaneously knocking down your tent is not. That’s why you need glow-in-the-dark paracord. Under “normal” conditions, simply staking down your tent should secure it just fine. However, if you’re expecting strong wind gusts or storms, taking the time to set up a tent guyline could prevent your tent from ending up like that cow in the movie “Twister.”

Storm-Proof Matches

What good will matches and lighters do if they’re soaking wet? Hint: they’ll do no good. Unless you have waterproof matches, that is! UCO’s storm-proof match kit is one of those things that you have to see to believe.

The set includes 25 wind and waterproof matches, three strikers, and a waterproof and buoyant case that can hold up to 40 matches. The matches are easy to light – even in windy conditions – and standing almost three inches tall, you can rest assured that they won’t burn your fingers. They’ll burn up to 15 seconds each and can relight even after being submerged in water — just be sure to dry them off first.

You can opt for a yellow, orange, or dark green case.
